When and Why to Check Your Blood Glucose

Checking your blood glucose will give you information about your diabetes and what needs to be done to best manage it. Although having to check your blood glucose might seem inconvenient at times, the more you check your blood glucose, the more information that is available. This would allow you to work with your diabetes healthcare team in making the best decisions to manage your diabetes.

 

Your healthcare team will tell you when to check your blood glucose. Here are some of the times they might recommend:

As soon as you wake up in the morningTo see if you need to adjust medication dosage such as long-acting insulin
Before a mealTo see if you need to modify your meals or medication
