Blood Glucose Monitoring Targets

You've got your blood glucose monitor; you know how to use it and how to read the numbers it gives you. What do these numbers mean?

The Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) has recommended blood glucose targets for most people living with diabetes. It's important that you try to keep your blood glucose as close to your target range as possible. By doing this, you may prevent or delay the complications associated with diabetes. The targets shown in the table below are ranges. Your health professional may recommend more specific targets for you.

**Glycemic targets should be individualized based on the individual’s age, duration of diabetes, risk of severe hypoglycemia, presence or absence of cardiovascular disease and life expectancy.
