How to Reduce Stress through Exercise

By adding exercise to to your daily routine, you're also helping reduce your stress levels.

 

Here's how:

  • Exercise increases your endorphins which are transmitters in your brain that make you feel good. It also reduces cortisol, a hormone related to stress.
  • Exercise helps you forget about your daily stress. When you're focusing on the last stretch of your jog or your aqua fitness class, your brain isn't thinking about the stress you left at the office or at home.
  • Exercising regularly can make you feel better about yourself, improve your mood and your sleep - all of which contribute to stress reduction.

Try not to think of exercise as just one more thing that you have to fit into your busy day. It should be something you enjoy and want to make time for. Find an activity you enjoy - there are certainly enough choices out there - and make it part of your regular routine.
