Our Responsibility

Content :

Developing World

Access to healthcare is one of the major challenges facing our global world. At Sanofi Canada we facilitate access to quality medicines to benefit appropriate patients including the world’s most vulnerable populations, often in areas of pressing social need.

We act to improve access to medicines and health care. We support employee initiatives and also work directly with key organizations to help deliver the care that is needed.

Pharmacists without borders

Caroline Potvin, Associate Manager of Medical Information at Sanofi in Canada, knows no borders. During her ‘free time’ she volunteers with Pharmacists Without Borders, or "Pharmaciens sans Frontières Canada" (PSF-Canada), as the PSF’s Board of Directors' Vice President and with their missions. She recently participated in a one-month visit to Uganda where she helped organize St. Mary’s hospital’s pharmacy department.

Providing access to health is a major challenge for all societies. In the knowledge that most people in the world can’t get basic medicines, Sanofi works to improve access to healthcare in developing, emergent and industrialized countries.

The Drought in East Africa: A Season for Helping

Countries in the Horn of Africa – Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti and Ethiopia – are experiencing the worst drought in 60 years. Particularly hard hit is Somalia, where to escape malnutrition and political unrest, thousands are walking 15 to 20 days to reach refugee camps.

In response to the crisis, Sanofi’s global humanitarian organization, the Sanofi Espoir Foundation, is partnering on emergency initiatives with UNICEF and longer-term programs with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), the leading African public health non-government organization (NGO).

Health Partners International of Canada

At Sanofi, we believe in the importance of global health and improving the quality of life for everyone. This is why we are one of the founding partners of Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC).

HPIC is a not-for-profit relief and development organization that works through partnerships to increase access to medicine and improve health in the developing world.

Every year HPIC requests an assortment of vital medicines for their premiere Physician Travel Pack program. Sanofi Canada medications which have been donated include:

  • Gastrolyte
  • Lasix
  • Plaquenil
  • Primaquine
  • Suprax

In 2011, Sanofi Canada participated in HPIC’s government of Canada sponsored project in Afghanistan by donating 2700 vials of an injectable antibiotic to the Indira Gandhi Childrens Hospital. In addition, donations of Gastrolyte to children in earthquake-ravished Haiti, were essential to rehydrating this vulnerable population.

Read about a recent mission to Peru, where donated Sanofi medicines help treat vulnerable communities.

Sanofi in Canada (including Sanofi Pasteur) has donated more than $65 million to HPIC over the last 20 years.
