Foundation ACT – Journée Réanimation cardio-pulmonaire à Queen's Park

24 Février 2010

Discours prononcé par Hugh O'Neill
Président-directeur général, Sanofi-aventis Canada
Toronto, Ontario
(Disponible en anglais seulement)

Good morning distinguished guests, students, ladies and gentlemen.

It’s a great pleasure to be here today as a member of the Board of Directors of the ACT Foundation, and as a representative of sanofi-aventis. Our company is one of the four corporate health partners – who also include AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada and Pfizer Canada – who have supported ACT and its goals for many years.

Our four companies are all represented here today, to underscore our commitment to the ACT Foundation’s goal to establish the lifesaving High School CPR and AED Program throughout Ontario. This is part of the overall ACT mission, which we firmly endorse, to bring CPR training to high schools students across Canada.

Let me start by congratulating the Government of Ontario on its commitment to the ACT High School CPR Program, and the new AED enhancement to that program, which trains young people how to use a defibrillator to save lives.

This is an inspiring example of a successful partnership between government, corporate citizens, a charitable foundation and the community. Working together, we have achieved great things.

The students who benefit from this training will be armed with critical skills wherever they go. Whether they’re at the mall, on the bus, at the rink, at family gatherings, they will know how to react quickly in dire situations. They will know how to save lives. And we all know that, thanks to ACT, lives have already been saved.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in Canada. We need to work together at different levels to improve patient outcomes through education, public awareness, prevention and intervention at crucial times.

Sanofi-aventis and our fellow pharma partners are proud to support ACT and its involvement in communities across Canada. After all, our role in society includes giving back to our fellow citizens through partnerships.

But we couldn’t do it without all of you. And so I salute each of you: our partners, the teachers who impart these skills, and the students who master and apply them. Together we are making a difference in our communities, and it is an honour to celebrate our successes here today.

Thank you.
